Prince of Monovia abdicates, abolishes title, establishes Austerderventio as legal successor

Today the former Prince Harry of Monovia released a rare statement to both his subjects and the micronational community. At approximately 6:30 PM this evening, the Prince sent a document titled “A Proclamation of Intent Regarding the Heritage And Legacy of the Principality of Monovia” to several former close allies as well as general meeting grounds for micronational diplomacy and discussion.

The proclamation has had three major outcomes – first and foremost, all former relations established between the Principality of Monovia and other micronations were abolished. Secondly, the Prince established a new title, the March of Austerderventio, to oversee the administration of Monovia’s remaining vestigial territories as of 2020. Finally, and most dramatically, the Prince abdicated and abolished the throne, whilst also recognizing Austerderventio as the sole legal successor to the Principality.

The proclamation should not, however, be seen as the end for Monovia – which has been in existence since May 2011. Rather it is hoped this will be the beginning of a long and hard rebuilding effort, aimed towards the restoration of order and activity for the long dormant nation. Indeed the proclamation was seen as necessary for such a revival to take place due to the myriad of claimants and purported “annexations” that had occurred since Monovia largely retreated from the micronational stage. With the slate wiped clean, it is hoped the business of reconstruction can now begin in earnest.

Micronational reaction has so far been slow to the news. Many of Monovia’s once most stalwart allies have since either de-recognised or distanced themselves from the nation – including even Monovia’s traditional protector of Austenasia. It remains to be seen how those once so close to the Principality will react. In spite of this it is unlikely that the Marquis shall prioritize diplomacy at this stage, with internal reconstruction being the most immediate goalpost. In particular the re-establishment of administrative control over Austerderventio’s claimed territories has become the most immediate objective, with the Marquis also expressing interest at re-staking his claim over the territory of Acrest, believed to have been illegally seized from Monovia during it’s period of inactivity. For the moment however Monovians and their friends across the world rejoice as an era of shame and decline is hopefully brought to a definitive end.

PROCLAMATION OF INTENT

REGARDING THE HERITAGE AND LEGACY

OF THE PRINCIPALITY OF MONOVIA

Issued by Decree of His Royal Highness, Prince Harry I

04/12/2020

It has come to our recent attention that despite the long running inactivity of the Principality of Monovia, several individuals in the “micronational” community have taken it upon themselves to claim the legacy – political, territorial, and cultural, of said state. Such individuals’ claims have even gained legitimacy and recognition from many of our erstwhile closest friends and allies. It is thus in this context that we, as Prince of Monovia, must strongly reject outright any such spurious claims and advances on the heritage of our nation, of which I am still legal sovereign. They are totally without legal basis and standing and we call on all our allies and partners to rebuke and repudiate any previous acknowledgements and recognitions based on such fraudulent claims.

Despite this, we must also acknowledge that the moribund state of the Principality leaves it powerless in its defence of such attacks and claimants and leaves our precious heritage without adequate protection. Therefore, we feel the need to make the following pronouncements:

  • All existent pacts, alliances, treaties, or unions proclaimed in the name of the Principality of Monovia shall be immediately rendered null and avoid.
  • The territorial and cultural legacy of the Monovish state, preserved in the territories claimed by the Principality of Monovia following the migration from Yorkshire to Derbyshire, shall henceforth be entrusted within a new title, the March of Austerderventio. The Principality of Monovia shall henceforth cede all of it’s territorial claims to said entity, which shall be recognised as the sole legal successor to the Principality of Monovia.
  • The title of Marquis of Austerderventio shall be by the final legal sovereign of the Principality of Monovia – in this case Prince Harry I of House Mac Giolla Phádraig
  • We shall therefore abdicate the throne of the Principality of Monovia and declare the title and office abolished with immediate effect.

Signed,
